I build robots and vision models that check their own work.

Research

I work on robots that turn language into action and can be trusted about what they did. My interests are robotic manipulation, task and motion planning, affordance-based control and vision-language models.

The GridVAD pipeline: video frames tiled into stratified grids, read by Qwen3-VL, consolidated by an LLM, grounded by Grounding DINO and propagated as masks by SAM 2

GridVAD

Training-free, open-set video anomaly detection. A vision-language model reads stratified frame grids and proposes anomalies in words; only proposals that recur across samplings survive; Grounding DINO and SAM 2 turn them into masks. Highest Pixel-AUROC on UCSD Ped2 among compared methods (77.59), with 2.7× fewer model calls than per-frame querying.

Failed Grasp failed: fingers closed to −0.0 mm, holding nothing. They met no resistance.

LATCH

Language-driven manipulation where every layer is checked against something independent: affordances come from the robot's own IK and collision checker, grasps are verified from joint states, and success is read from the simulator, never from the planner's report. ROS 2, MoveIt 2, Gazebo. Journal paper in preparation.

One real episode: “put both yellow cubes in the blue bin”. Step through what the robot did and what it reported.

LLM task planner

My BSc thesis, graded A+. Natural-language instructions become Franka Panda manipulation in Webots: an LLM reasons about the task, affordances ground each step, and inverse kinematics executes it. Supervised by Dr. Magdi B. M. Amein.
